What is ReelVision?

ReelVision is an MCP connector for Claude. It downloads a public short video from the link you paste, extracts keyframes, and gets a timestamped transcript. Claude looks at the actual frames itself, not at another AI’s summary, so it can read on-screen text, describe what happens and answer follow-up questions.

Why not just use a transcript tool?

ReelVision gives Claude the visual context as well as the words. A transcript can tell you what someone says, but it misses a diagram, a recipe quantity written on screen, or a product held up to the camera. Keyframes let Claude inspect those details and connect them with the voiceover. Frames are samples, so a fast cut may be missed. You can ask Claude to zoom in at a specific timestamp when you need a closer look.

Can Claude watch Instagram Reels?

Yes, with ReelVision. Claude receives keyframe images, the caption and a timestamped transcript from a public Reel. Instagram may ask for a login, so some links may fail.

Is ReelVision free?

ReelVision is free during the beta, with 5 reels per user each day. The daily count resets at 00:00 UTC. Higher limits are coming soon.

Do I need to sign in?

ReelVision requires a one-time Google sign-in when you connect. Your Google account ID helps enforce daily limits and control abuse; your email and name are not stored.

What does Claude actually see?

ReelVision gives Claude actual keyframe images, a caption and a timestamped transcript when available. Claude reads the frames itself. Keyframes sample the video, so fast details may fall between them.

Which videos work?

ReelVision supports public Instagram, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, X, Facebook and Threads videos up to 90 seconds. Private or deleted posts cannot be opened. Some Instagram links may fail.

Is it safe? What do you store?

ReelVision deletes cached videos, frames and transcripts within 1 hour. The database keeps your Google account ID and usage metadata, including a salted link hash. Audio may go to Google or Groq for transcription.
